Mets Shutout Cardinals 6-0 With Dominating Outing From Manaea

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 this afternoon at Busch Stadium in a make-up game to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 59-53.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out in the top of the second and 3B Jose Iglesias followed with a walk.

Two batters later, Alonso scored on a wild pitch by Cardinals RHP Andre Pallante.

In the top of the fifth, 2B Jeff McNeil singled with one out and catcher Francisco Alvarez singled with one out.

CF Harrison Bader followed with a RBI single and then SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases.

RF Tyrone Taylor came up next and broke the game open with a bases clearing double.

In the top of the sixth, McNeil continued his torrid hitting in the second half with a solo homer.

LHP Sean Manaea had another outstanding start following his previous start with seven more scoreless innings.

Manaea allowed six hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts.

He had outstanding command of his fastball and slider or "sweeper" which helped him pick up key strikeouts.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 3.30.

RHP Ryan Stanek followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 6 at the Colorado Rockies at 8:40 p.m.
