Mets Beat Padres 8-3 Behind Ninth-Inning Barage

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 8-3 at Petco Park tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 67-61.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the fourth, D.H. Jesse Winker singled with one out and then 2B Jose Iglesias followed with a ground-rule double.

Winker then scored on a passed ball and two batters later, RF Jeff McNeil reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

The offense did not score for the next four innings, but then put up some much needed insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

McNeil led off with a single and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

Lindor then singled to load the bases and Viento followed with a two-run single.

Two batters later, Alonso drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

Winker followed with a RBI double and Iglesias reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

RHP Luis Severino allowed one run on five hits in five innings.

He gave up four walks with five strikeouts.

He picked up his ninth win.

LHP Danny Young followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the ninth and struggled allowing two runs, but was able to get the last three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 23 at the Padres at 9:40 p.m.
