The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 3-2 this afternoon at Petco Park to split their four-game series and dropped their record to 68-63.

LHP Jose Quintana had his best start in a month with 6.1 scoreless innings allowing four hits and two walks.

Quintana had no strikeouts, but was able to use his curveball efficiently which helped him pick up 12 ground-ball outs.

He lowered his ERA to 4.36.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and was able to get the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but then struggled in the bottom of the eighth.

Butto gave up a one-out walk to SS Mason McCoy and then gave up a two-run homer to LF Jurickson Profar on a hanging change-up.

Butto was taken out later in the inning with two outs.

RHP Paul Maton had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a walk-off homer to CF Jackson Merrill.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against LHP Martin Perez until the top of the fourth after D.H. J.D. Martinez hit a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, 3B Mark Vientos continued his torrid stretch with a solo homer for his 21st homer of the season.

Outside of those two solo homers, the Met offense struggled all game with runners on base and were unable to get timely hits.

They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, August 27 at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.
