Mets Beat Athletics 9-1 Powered By Alonso and Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Oakland Athletics 9-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their four-game losing streak and improved their record to 62-58.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, LF Jesse Winker led off  the bottom of the second with a single and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single.

Two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos drove in Winker with a RBI double.

In the following inning, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a solo homer of his own.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next two innings, but then erupted for six runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Vientos led off with a walk and then RF Ben Gamel followed with a walk.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then walked to load the bases and Lindor followed by driving in his second run of the game with a RBI single.

Gamel came around to score on a wild pitch and Lindor and Alvarez advanced to second and third.

CF Brandon Nimmo then drove in Alvarez with a sacrifice fly and DH J.D, Martinez followed with a RBI double.

Pinch-hitter Harrison Bader then reached on an infield hit and Alonso followed by breaking the game open with a two-run double.

LHP David Peterson had another excellent outing allowing one unearned run on three hits in 6.1 innings.

He gave up four walks with four strikeouts. 

He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 3.04.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed and picked up the last two outs in the top of the seventh.

LHP Danny Young threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, August 15 at home against the Athletics at 1:10 p.m.
