Mets Lose To Marlins 3-2 As Bullpen Blows Late Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 3-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 64-60.

RHP Paul Blackburn had a solid outing allowing one run on four hits in six innings.

He gave up one walk with four strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and had another difficult outing allowing two walks and then threw a wild pitch which allowed tying run to score.

Brazoban then gave up another single and was taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett followed and was able to get out of the inning after LF Brandon Nimmo made a sliding catch.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the eighth and had a difficult outing as well giving three hits and a walk and was then taken out.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the top of the eighth and gave up the game-winning RBI single to LF Derek Hill.

Maton stayed in for the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the first 3B Mark Vientos singled and LF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and flew out to centerfield and then Vientos was thrown out trying to score from second.

In the bottom of the fifth, DH Jesse Winker led off with a single and 2B Jose Iglesias followed with a walk.

Three batters later, SS Francisco Lindor came through with game-tying RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Nimmo led off with a homer.  Nimmo left the game after his at-bat in the bottom of the seventh due to his shoulder discomfort after fouling off a pitch

In the bottom of the ninth, Iglesias led off with an infield single and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

Pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil came up next and struck out after two failed bunt attempts.

Lindor followed by flying out to centerfield and then Vientos struck out to end the game.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base going 1-9 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, August 19 at home against the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10 p.m.
