The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 3B Mark Vientos singled with two outs and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer for his 30th homer of the season.
Alonso joined Mike Piazza as the only other Mets in franchise history to have four seasons of 30 or more homers.
LF Jesse Winker came up next and delivered a solo homer.
After a scoreless top of the second, SS Francisco Lindor singled to lead the top of the third and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.
Three batters later, Winker came through with a RBI single.
In the top of the sixth, Alonso and Winker singled to begin the inning and two batters, RF Starling Marte drove in a much needed insurance run with a RBI single.
LHP Jose Quintana had to work out of several jams due to all of the traffic on the basepaths, but was able to buckle down and limit the damage.
Quintana allowed two runs on six hits in five innings.
He gave up three walks with six strikeouts.
Quintana picked up his seventh win of the season.
RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
RHP Jose Butto came on in the bottom of the ninth and did not have his best stuff allowing one run on three hits, but he was able to get the last three outs and pick up his third save of the season.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 1 at the White Sox at 2:10 p.m.
