LHP Jose Quintana started out well with three scoreless innings working out of based loaded jams in the top of the first and third, but then it all came apart in the top of the fourth.
Quintana gave up a single and two walks to load the bases and then gave up a grand slam to CF JJ Bleday.
Quintana was taken out after the inning and his final line was four innings, seven hits, four runs, four walks and one strikeout.
RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next in the top of the fifth and allowed a run on a wild pitch.
RHP Reed Garrett followed in the top of the sixth and gave up two more runs on a RBI ground-out by DH Tyler Nevin and a RBI single by 1B Seth Brown.
RHP Phil Maton came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso scored on a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the third, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer.
Later in the inning, catcher Luis Torrens hit a two-run single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Vientos came through once again with a solo homer.
The Met offense was not able to any generate any more runs after that and struggled with men.
They went 2-11 with runners in scoring position leaving 10 runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 16 at home against the Miami Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
