The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1 tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 71-64.

After a scoreless top of the first, RF Jesse Winker singled to lead off the top of the second and D.H. J.D. Martinez followed with a single.

2B Jeff McNeil then walked to load the bases and two batters later, CF Harrison Bader grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run.

In the top of the third, 1B Pete Alonso walked with two outs and then Winker followed with a RBI double.

Martinez then hit a two-run double.

The Met offense did not do much for the next five innings, but then in the top of the ninth, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with one out and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single.

3B Mark Vientos then drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Tylor Megill made his return to the rotation after RHP Paul Blackburn went on the IL and got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a RBI double to LF Andrew Benintendi.

Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

He was able to pick up the first out in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out.

His final line was 5.1 innings, five hits, one run, one walk and nine strikeouts.

Megill had good life on his fastball and sharp command of his slider and curveball.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 4.82.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed and picked up the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth for his third consecutive appearance and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, August 31 at the White Sox at 7:10 p.m.
