Mets Beat Marlins 7-3 Behind Nimmo and Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 7-3 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 63-59.

In the bottom of first, LF Brandon Nimmo reached on an error by RHP Roddery Munoz and then DH J.D. Martinez followed with a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, the Met offense erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez walked with one out and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a two-run homer.

CF Harrison Bader then walked and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI triple.

3B Mark Vientos was then hit by a pitch and then Nimmo came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

LHP Sean Manaea started out well with three scoreless innings, and then gave up two runs in the top of the fourth on a RBI double by CF Derek Hill and RBI ground-out by 3B Emmanuel Rivera.

Manaea allowed another run in the top of the fifth on a solo homer by 1B Jake Burger and then finished up strong with two more scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

His final line was seven innings, five hits, three runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

He picked up his ninth win.

RHP Jose Butto continued his dominance in the bullpen by closing it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, August 16 at home against the Marlins at 4:10 p.m.
