Mets Lose To Orioles 9-5 After Quintana Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 9-5 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 65-61.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a two-out walk to SS Gunnar Henderson and then allowed a two-run homer to the following hitter RF Anthony Santander.

In the top of the second, Quintana allowed a lead-off triple to LF Colton Cowser and later in the inning, a sacrifice fly to former Met catcher James McCann.

Quintana had a scoreless top of the third, but then it all fell apart in the top of the fourth.

He allowed a lead-off double and then an infield hit which scored a run.

Quintana later allowed a towering two-run homer to McCann.

Quintana allowed another run in the top of the fifth on a RBI double by DH Eloy Jimenez and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, eight hits, seven runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Danny Young gave up two runs in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by Henderson and then an unearned run after LF Brandon Nimmo made a throwing error to allow run to score.

3B Mark Vientos drove in the first Met run of the game in the bottom of the third with a RBI double.

The Met offense did not do much for the next four innings, but then came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

SS Francisco Lindor hit a one-out double and then Vientos reached on an error by Henderson.

Nimmo followed with a RBI double and D.H. J.D. Martinez then hit a three-run homer, but the offense was not able to get any closer after that.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, August 21 at home against the Orioles at 1:10 p.m.
