Mets Lose To Athletics 9-4 After Blackburn Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics 9-4 tonight at Citi Field for their consecutive loss and dropped their record to 61-58.

RHP Paul Blackburn got off to tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off walk and then a single and then two batters later, a hit by pitch to load the bases.

Blackburn then gave up a three-run double to the following hitter 1B Seth Brown.

Blackburn had a scoreless top of the second, but then it all unraveled for him in the top of the third.

Blackburn gave up a lead-off single to DH Brent Rooker and then walked the following hitter CF JJ Bleday.

Blackburn was then let down by his defense after 3B Jose Iglesias made an error which allowed a run to score.

Blackburn then gave up a three-run homer to the next hitter catcher Shea Langeliers.

Blackburn had a scoreless top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, six hits, seven runs (six earned runs), two walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto had a scoreless top of the fifth, but then gave up two runs in the top of the sixth on an infield hit by LF Miguel Andujar and a RBI double by Langeliers.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and had a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, D.H. J.D. Martinez was hit by a pitch with one out and 2B Jeff McNeil walked and Iglesias hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then stoles second.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk and then LF Jesse Winker drove in Lindor with a RBI double.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a two-run single and 3B Mark Vientos walked.

However after that, McNeil struck out, Iglesias fouled out to first and then catcher Francisco Alvarez struck out to end the threat.

The Met offense were not able to generate any more runs after that and struggled all night with men on base.

They went 4-17 with runners in scoring position leaving 11 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 14 at home against the Athletics at 7:10 p.m.
