After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in the top of the second.
The offense did not do much in the next three innings until the top of the sixth after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer.
In the top of the ninth, RF Jesse Winker doubled with one out and was then taken out for pinch runner Tyrone Taylor.
Two batters later, 3B Jose Iglesias delivered with the game-winning single.
LHP David Peterson started out well with two scoreless and then gave up a two-run homer to DH Randall Grichuk in the bottom of the third.
Peterson was able to settle down after that at one point retiring nine hitters in a row and then ran into a jam in the bottom of the seventh.
He was able to get 2B Kevin Newman to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was seven innings, seven hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
Peterson lowered his ERA to 2.83.
RHP Jose Butto followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth and picked up his sixth win.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and bounced back from his blown save last night with a 1-2-3 inning and two strikeouts to pick up his 15th save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 30 at the Chicago White Sox at 8:10 p.m.
