Mets Crush Rockies 9-1 To Take Series Powered By Alonso

The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 9-1 at Coors Field this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 61-54.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and then 2B Jose Iglesias followed with a RBI double.

D.H. J.D. Martinez followed with a RBI double of his own and then 1B Pete Alonso capped off the scoring in the inning with a two-run homer.

In the top of the fourth, Alonso led off with a solo homer for his second homer of the day.

In the top of the fifth, Alonso singled with two outs and then 3B Mark Vientos broke the game open with a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, CF Harrison Bader led off with a hit by pitch and then RF Tyrone Taylor followed with a double.

Lindor then drove in Bader with a RBI single and Iglesias followed by driving in Taylor with a sacrifice fly.

LHP David Peterson had another solid start allowing one run on four hits in five innings.

He gave up three walks with five strikeouts.

He picked up his sixth win.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Ryan Stanek came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

LHP Danny Young closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 9 at the Seattle Mariners at 10:10 p.m.
