Mets Beat Padres 7-1 Powered By Lindor

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 7-1 tonight at Petco Park and improved their record to 68-62.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 3B Mark Vientos walked and then LF Brandon Nimmo walked.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the fourth with two outs, RF Starling Marte singled and then catcher Francisco Alvarez reached on an error by third baseman Manny Machado.

2B Jeff McNeil followed by reaching on a hit by pitch and then SS Francisco Lindor came up and broke the game open with a grand slam.

In the top of the seventh, Lindor led off with a homer for his second homer of the game.

In the top of the eighth, pinch-hitter Harrison Bader hit a solo homer.

LHP David Peterson had another outstanding start allowing one run on five hits in 7.1 innings.

He gave up two walks with two strikeouts.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 2.85.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and made his first appearance since returning off the IL and had a dominant performance.

Nunez picked up the last five outs of the game with three strikeouts and one hit with no walks.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 25 at the Padres at 4:10 p.m.
