The New York Mets lost to the Kansas City Royals 4-1 tonight and dropped their record to 62-60. RHP Noah Syndergarrd started out well with four scoreless innings, but it all unraveled for him in the bottom of the fifth. Syndergarrd walked 1B Ryan O'Hearn with one out and then gave up back-to-back doubles to catcher Meibrys Viloria and SS Nicky Lopez. In the bottom of the sixth, he gave up a lead-off double to 3B Hunter Dozier, but was able to get out of it and came out after the inning. His final line was 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. It was the first time since July 6th that Syndergarrd has gone at least seven inning, a span of seven starts. LHP Justin Wilson followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Brad Brach came in the bottom of the eighth and gave up singles to LF Alex Gordon and Dozier and walked DH Jorge Soler to load the bases and was then taken out. RHP Edwin Diaz walked RF Brett Phillips to bring in a run and gave up an RBI single to CF Bubba Starling.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the first inning after LF J.D. Davis singled, 1B Pete Alonso grounded into a fielder's choice and reached on an error, and RF Michael Conforto drove in Davis with a RBI single. After that the bats went quiet and weren't able to capitalize with several opportunities with men on base and went 1-9 with runners in scoring position.

Injury News
LF J.D. Davis left the game in the top of the eighth inning after he tweaked his calf running down the first base line trying to beat out an infield hit.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Royals at 7:15 p.m.
