Mets vs. Marlins Game 112 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 6-2 this afternoon in the first game of a double-header for their third consecutive win and got their record back to .500 at 56-56. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a homer on the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning after Marlins rookie RHP Robert Duggar who was making his MLB debut. McNeil also picked up his 200th career  SS Amed Rosario hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LF J.D. Davis singled, 3B Todd Frazier walked and CF Juan Lagares walked to load the bases. RHP Jacob deGrom helped out his own cause with a two-run single. Rosario hit an infield single to start the bottom of the fifth inning, CF Michael Conforto walked and 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single. Davis followed with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Jacob deGrom struggled in the first few innings, but then settled down and got on a roll. deGrom retired nine in a row at one point. He gave up a RBI double to 3B Starlin Castro in the top of the second and a solo homer to rookie 2B Isan Diaz in the top of the sixth inning, but was excellent otherwise. He had sharp command of his slider and change-up and was dialing up his fastball to 98 mph. His final line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. He picked up his seventh win. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets next game is tonight at 7:40 p.m.
