Mets vs. Phillies Game 134 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4 tonight to snap their six game losing streak and improved their record to 68-66. The offense was shut down against Phillies ace RHP Aaron Nola for the first six innings, but finally broke through in the top of the seventh inning. LF J.D. Davis led off with a walk and 2B Joe Panik followed with a single. SS Amed Rosario popped out, but 3B Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Catcher Wilson Ramos came up as a pitch-hitter off the bench and drove in Davis with a RBI single. Pinch-hitter Raja Davis lined out and LF Jeff McNeil popped out to end the threat and limit the damage to one run. In the top of the eighth, 1B Pete Alonso and CF Michael Conforto singled to start out the frame and one batter later, Panik walked to load the bases. SS Amed Rosario followed with a two-run single. 3B Todd Frazier then broke the game open with a three-run homer. In the top of the ninth, Alonso singled for his third hit of the game and Conforto followed with a two-run homer. Davis then walked and Panik doubled. Frazier followed with his second three-run homer of the night.

RHP Zack Wheeler had one of his best outings in a while and his final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless top of the seventh inning and picked up his fourth win. RHP Edwin Diaz came in next in the bottom of the eighth and built off his last outing with a 1-2-3  inning with two strikeouts. RHP Chris Mazza gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but was able to close it out and get the final three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m.
