The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-1 tonight in 14 innings to snap their five game winning streak and dropped their record to 67-61. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding performance and cruised through the first five innings with a blazing fastball topping out at 98 mph and a sharp slider at 93 mph.. In the top of the sixth inning, deGrom gave up a single to 2B Ozzie Albies who then stole second base and 1B Freddie Freeman hit a RBI single. He stayed in for the top of the seventh and thew a scoreless inning. His fine line was seven innings, four hits, one walk and 13 strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. RHP Edwin Diaz followed in the top of the tenth and struck out CF Ronald Acuna Jr and Albies to end the inning after pinch-runner Billy Hamilton reached third base with one out. LHP Luis Avilan and RHP Brad Brach combined to throw a scoreless top of the eleventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald threw a scoreless top of the 12th inning. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the 13th inning. In the top of the 14th, RHP Jeurys Familia gave up a lead-off walk to catcher Tyler Flowers, double to former Met pinch-hitter Adeiny Hecchavaria and a RBI single to Hamilton.
The offense was stymied by Braves starter RHP Mike Foltynewich and the rest of the Braves pen. They went 0-7 with runners in scoring position and had six hits. deGrom drove in the only run with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Braves at 7:10 p,m.
