The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians 4-3 tonight in 10 innings for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 66-60. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with two scoreless innings in the top of the first and second innings, but gave up a run in the top of the third inning on a RBI ground-out by RF Yasiel Puig. Stroman settled down after that with a scoreless top of the fourth, but came out after the inning due to left hamstring tightness. His final line was four innings, five hits, one run, one walk and one strikeout. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and threw a scoreless top of the fifth inning. RHP Brad Brach followed in the top of the sixth and gave up a run on a RBI triple by 3B Jose Ramirez. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. LHP Luis Avilan gave up a solo homer to 1B Carlos Santana in the top of the tenth inning.
The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth inning after 3B Todd Frazier singled with one out, CF Juan Lagares followed with an RBI double to tie it up, and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme also hit a RBI double to take the lead 2-1. The bats went quiet until the bottom of the tenth after SS Amed Rosario led off with a single, 2B Joe Panik moved Rosario over to second base with a sacrifice bunt, 1B Pete Alonso was walked intentionally, and RF Michael Conforto hit an RBI ground-out to tie the game. Catcher Wilson Ramos then hit an infield sit and LF J.D. Davis came through with an RBI single, which was his first walk-off hit of his career.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Indians at 7:10 p.m.
