Mets vs. Phillies Game 135 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 69-66. SS Amed Rosario led off with a single in the top of the first inning and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a walk. LF J.D. Davis struck out, but catcher Wilson Ramos hit a RBI single, which helped extend his hitting streak to 24 games. In the top of the third inning, Davis walked and Ramos hit an infield hit and RF Michael Conforto drove in Davis with a RBI double. The bats went scoreless for the next two innings until the top of the fifth after Ramos led off with a single, Conforto walked and 3B Todd Frazier hit a RBI double. 2B Joe Panik followed with a two-run double. In the top of the ninth inning, Ramos double and Conforto singled and then Frazier drove in Ramos with a RBI single.

LHP Steven Matz gave a lead-off triple to SS Jean Segura in the bottom of the first inning, and an RBI ground-out to RF Bryce Harper, but settled down after that. Matz cruised through the second-fifth innings allowing three baserunners. He gave up a solo homer to Harper in the bottom of the sixth and then 1B Logan Morrison reached on an error by Panik and LF Corey Dickerson hit a bloop single to load the bases and then Matz was taken out. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.  He picked up his ninth win. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and got 2B Sean Rodriguez who ripped a hard line drive that Frazier was able to catch. Avilan walked pinch-hitter Andrew Knapp to bring in a run but was able to escape out of our further trouble after CF Adam Hasley grounded into a double play. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a double to Seagura and struck out catcher J.T. Realmuto and was then pulled. LHP Justin Wilson got the last outs in the bottom of the seventh on a fly-out by Harper and struck out Morrison to end the inning. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings with four strikeouts and picked up his fourth save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.
