Mets vs. Cubs Game 133 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-1 tonight for their sixth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 67-66 and now trail the Cubs by 5 games for the second wild card spot in the National League. RHP Jacob deGrom gave up four runs on five hits in seven innings. Degrom gave up a solo homer to 1B Victor Caratini in the top of the second inning before settling in a nice groove retiring 15 hitters in a row. He gave up another homer to Caratini in the top of the seventh inning, this time a three-run shot. This ended his streak of 17 consecutive starts allowing three runs or fewer. RHP Seth Lugo came in next in the top of the eighth inning and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The offense struggled with runners in scoring position early in the game leaving six runners on base through the first three innings.  They have five hits for the entire game and one after the third inning. LF J.D. Davis drove in the only run with a solo homer in the bottom of the first.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m.
