The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians 2-0 tonight in a rain-shortened  eight inning victory for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 67-60. Play resumed in the bottom of the sixth after a two hour, 28 minute delay and another 38 minute rain delay in the bottom of the eighth ended the game. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after 2B Joe Panik singed, two batters later RF Michael Conforto hit a ground-rule double  and catcher Wilson Ramos followed with a two-run double to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. The bats weren't able to score any more runs after that and couldn't capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the eighth after 3B Todd Frazier was thrown out at the eighth LF Tyler Naquin. Pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme walked and SS Amed Rosario singled and then the game was called.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had another stellar performance throwing six shutout outings with five strikeouts before having to come out due to rain delay and picked up his ninth win.  Syndergarrd threw 5.1 perfect innings and was helped out by defense in the top of the sixth after 1B Pete Alonso robbed CF Greg Allen of a hit. RHP Jeurys Familia followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald came on in the top of the eighth and threw a 1-2-3 inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Braves at 7:10 p.m.
