Mets vs. Nationals Game 116 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 7-6 tonight for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 60-56 and have now moved into a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for the second wild card spot in the National League. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up three runs in the top of the fourth. Stroman had scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, but gave up a lead-off walk to SS Trea Turner in the top of the seventh and was then taken out. His final line was 6 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. LHP Justin Wilson came in next and gave up a two-run homer to 2B Anthony Rendon. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up a run in 1.1 innings. LHP Luis Avilan got the last two outs in the top of the ninth and picked up his third win.

The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. LF J.D. Davis followed with a solo homer. The bats went quiet until the bottom of the ninth after Davis led off with a double, catcher Wilson Ramos singled and 3B Todd Frazier hit a three-run homer to tie the game. 2B Joe Panik singled, but CF Juan Lagares was unable to sacrifice successfully and Panik was thrown out at second base. SS Amed Rosario singled for his third hit of the night and CF Michael Conforto came throw with a RBI walk-off single to send the electric crowd home happy.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
