Mets vs. Nationals Game 117 Recap

Mets RHP Noah Syndergarrd (Credits to Newsday.com)


The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 tonight for their eighth consecutive win and 15 of out 16 and improved their record to 61-56. The offense was held scoreless by Nationals starter LHP Patrick Corbin for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after LF J.D. Davis hit a solo homer for his 14th homer of the year. Catcher Wilson Ramos immediately followed with a solo homer on the first pitch on his 32th b-day which was his 13th homer of the year. The bats went quiet after that until the bottom of the eighth after pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme hit his first career homer to tie the game. 2B Joe Panik then reached on an error and 3B Jeff McNeil hit a single. 1B Pete Alonso was walked intentionally to load the bases. J.D. Davis then came to the plate and came through once again with a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game and 38th RBI on the season.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had a difficult top of the first inning throwing 29 pitches and allowed a two-run homer to LF Juan Soto. Syndergarrd settled down after that with a scoreless top of the second inning and was helped out by a double-play in the top of the third, which helped him throw another scoreless inning. He had 1-2-3 innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings and one point retired nine hitters in a row. Syndergarrd finished up strong with scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh. His final line was 7 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. He has gone at least seven innings in six straight starts which sets a career high and has a 1.91 ERA in that span. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and retired the first two hitters he faced for the 25th and 26th consecutive he faced which tied Bobby Parnell for the club record. Lugo then gave up a solo homer to Soto, but was able to recover and threw a 1--2-3 top of the ninth inning and picked up his fifth win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.
