Mets vs. Pirates Game 109 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4 tonight to snap their seven game winning streak and dropped their record to 53-56. LHP Steven Matz started out well with three scoreless innings, but it all fell apart in the bottom of the fourth. Matz gave up five runs in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out with two outs. His final line was 3.2 innings, 6 hits, 5 earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman followed with 2.1 scoreless innings. RHP Tyler Bashlor gave up a three-run homer to CF Starling Marte in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The offense got on the board early in the top of the first inning after RF Jeff McNeil led off with a double and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in McNeil with an RBI double. 2B Robinson Cano followed with a single to move Alonso to third base and catcher Wilson Ramos hit an RBI grounder. In the top of the third inning, Alonso walked, Cano singled and LF J.D Davis hit an RBI double. In the top of the seventh inning, CF Michael Conforto and Alonso singled and Cano hit a bloop to drive in a run, but Ramos grounded out to end the inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Pirates at 7:10 p.m.
