Mets vs. White Sox Game 108 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-0 this afternoon for their seventh consecutive win and improved their record to 53-55. 2B Robinson Cano hit a solo homer in the top of the second inning for his tenth of the year. The offense went quiet after that until the top of the sixth after Cano drove in another run with an RBI single. It was his 554th career double, which passes Eddie Murray and Jeff Kent for 29th all time. Catcher Wilson Ramos followed with an RBI single. which scored 1B Pete Alonso and Cano scored on an error by RF Leonis Garcia.

RHP Zack Wheeler had an outstanding start with seven scoreless innings allowing four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Wheeler lowered his ERA to 4.45 and now has 675 strikeouts in his Met career passing Craig Swan for 13th on the franchise list. He had sharp command of all his pitches with a blazing fastball and a sharp curve-ball, slider and change-up. Wheeler picked up his eighth win. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning and recorded one out in the bottom of the ninth. RHP Jeurys Familia recorded the last two outs to close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:05 p.m.
