Mets vs. Phillies Game 5 Recap

Mets SS Amed Rosario

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 this afternoon and improved their record to 4-1 on the season. RHP Noah Syndergarrd started out well in the first inning, but struggled after that with his efficiency and keeping his pitch count down. Syndergarrd only went four innings throwing 92 pitches while giving up two runs and two walks with seven strikeouts.  RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and had two dominating scoreless innings with three strikeouts and picked up his first win on the season. RHP Hansel Robles followed with a dominating inning of his own striking out the side. RHP A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning and recorded his second save on the season. The bulpen was outstanding today retiring 14 out of the 15 batters it faced and has looked great so far in this young season. Hopefully it will continue to be a strength late in games as the season progresses.

LF Yoenis Cespedes got the offense off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer. SS Amed Rosario drove in the go-ahead two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 P.M. against the Washington Nationals.
