RHP Matt Harvey
|
The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 tonight to snap their nine-game winning streak and drop their record to 11-2. RHP Matt Harvey made his third start of the season and began his outing well with a 1-2-3 top of the first inning. In the top of the second inning, Harvey ran into trouble and gave up a three-run homer to 2B Jonathan Vilar. He gave up a solo homer to catcher Jeff Brandy in the top of the fourth inning. Harvey was taken out after the fifth inning. This was his 11th consecutive start with five innings or fewer pitched. His final line was: 5 innings, 8 hits, 6 strikeouts, 4 earned runs and one walk. RHP Paul Sewald followed and had three shutout innings in relief with five strikeouts. RHP Hansel Robles allowed a solo homer to SS Orlando Arcia in the top of the ninth inning.
The offense was held scoreless by Brewers starter RHP Chase Anderson for the first five innings. LF Yoenis Cespedes drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. The bats were shut down after that for the rest of the game due to the dominant Brewers bullpen with LHP Josh Hader striking out five hitters in two scoreless innings to close out the game and pick up the save.
The Mets final game against the Brewers is at 1:10 P.M. tomorrow afternoon.
