Mets vs. Brewers Game 14 Recap

Mets Infielder Wilmer Flores

The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in a dramatic 3-2 win this afternoon and improved their record to 12-2. RHP Noah Syndergarrd struggled in the first inning after throwing over 30 pitches, but settled down after that.  In the second inning, Syndergarrd struck out his last two hitters and then struck out the side in the top of the third and fourth innings for eight consecutive strikeouts. He had much better command of his secondary pitches including his curveball and changeup, which helped him get a lot of swing and misses. His final line was: 5.1 innings pitched, 2 hits, 1 run, ( 0 earned), 1 BB and 11 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and gave up one run after SS Amed Rosario made a throwing error, which resulted in two runs. Gsellman was able to get out of the inning and got one out in the top of the seventh inning. RHP A.J. Ramos followed and got one out, but walked two out of the three batters he faced. LHP Jerry Blevins struck out 3B Travis Shaw with the bases loaded to end the inning. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning with one strikeout. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his first win.

3B Todd Frazier drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single. RF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Nimmo had a great game in his first start since returning from the minor leagues with three hits. He hit a single, triple, and homer and was a double short of the cycle. 1B Wilmer Flores hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 P.M.
