Mets 2B Asdrubal Cabrera
The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins tonight in a dramatic 8-6 win for their seventh consecutive win and improved their record to 9-1. The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after 1B Wilmer Flores drove home a run with an RBI single. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning. RF Michael Conforto drove home an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. CF Juan Lagares followed with a sacrifice fly. In the top of the eighth inning, Flores drove in another run with a solo homer to cut the lead to 6-5. Two batters later, Cabrera hit his second homer of the game to tie the game at 6. In the top of the ninth inning, LF Yoenis Cespedes broke out of his 1-20 slump with a two-run double scoring SS Amed Rosario and Conforto.
RHP Jacob degrom started out well with four scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. deGrom gave up four runs in the fifth after SS Miguel Rojas hit an RBI single, 2B Starlin Castro hit a sac fly and 1B Justin Bour hit a two-run homer. He settled down in the bottom of the sixth inning with two strikeouts. deGrom ended up allowing four runs including two home runs on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts. RHP Jacob Rhyme came in next and gave up a two-run homer to Bour, his second of the game. 1B Paul Sewald had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning and picked up his second win. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and recorded his sixth save on the save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Marlins at 7:10 P.M.
