Mets vs. Cardinals Game 23 Recap

RHP Noah Syndergarrd



The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 today in 13 innings and dropped their record to 15-8. LF Yoenis Cespedes got the offense off to a quick start with an RBI double in the top of the first inning. After that, RHP Carlos Martinez shut the bats down and didn't allow another run.  In the top of the seventh inning, Cespedes drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2.  In the top of the tenth inning, RF Jay Bruce singled, 3B, Todd Frazier and 1B Adrian Gonzalez all singled to load the bases and then catcher Jose Lobaton drew a walk which drove in a run/

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had a strong outing and started out well retiring first 10 batters he faced before allowing giving up a hit. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Syndergarrd gave up an RBI double to RF Marcel Ozuna, but was able to get out of the inning with a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he was hurt by his defense after SS Amed Rosario made an error, which allowed pinch-hitter Greg Garcia to get on base. He was taken out after he had runners on first and third with one out. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and gave up an RBI single to CF Tommy Phan. Syndergarrd's final line was two runs (one earned) on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts for a no-decision. RHP Seth Lugo pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning. RHP Jeuys Familia blew his third save on the season in the bottom of the tenth inning after he gave up an RBI double to 1B Jose Martinez. RHP A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless bottom of the eleventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless bottom of the 12th inning, but gave up a walk-off single to RF Dexter Fowler in the bottom of the 13th inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the San Diego Padres at 10:10 P.M.
