Mets vs. Padres Game 25 Recap

LHP Jason Vargas



The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 12-2 tonight and dropped their record to 16-9. LHP Jason Vargas made his season debut after he returned from a non-displaced fracture of the hamate bone in right hand. Vargas had a difficult first outing and gave up nine earned runs on nine hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and struggled as well  allowing three  earned runs on four hits in 2 1.3 innings with five strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins appeared next and had a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The offense struggled for the entire game against Padres starter LHP Joey Lucchesi. LF Yoenis Cespedes drove in the only two runs with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning.

The Mets next game against the San Diego Padres is at 4:10 P.M. today in the final game of the series.
