RHP Jeurys Familia
The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-6 tonight and dropped their record to 12-3. RHP Jacob deGrom had a solid outing and was the second starter to reach the seventh inning this season and the first to go into the eighth inning. DeGrom's final line was: 7.1 innings pitched, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk and 12 strikeouts. He gave up a solo homer to RF Bryce Harper in the top of the first inning, but settled down after that and retired 10 batters in a row through the fourth inning. DeGrom got out of a jam leaving runners on first and second in the top of the fifth inning after getting 1B Ryan Zimmerman to ground out. In the top of the eighth inning, he gave up a leadoff single to LF Moises Sierra and then struck out CF Michael A. Taylor, which was his last batter. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and walked 2B Howie Kendrick. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and gave up a two-run single to Harper and both runs were charged to DeGrom. RHP A.J. Ramos struck out Zimmerman for the second out in the eighth, but then gave up a single to C Pedro Severino which loaded the bases, and then allowed a bases loaded walk to former Met Matt Reynolds. Closer RHP Jeurys Familia tried to salvage the eighth inning, but wasn't able to do so. Familia gave up a two-run single to 3B Wilmer Difo. This was his first blown save of the season. He later walked Taylor with the bases loaded to give the Nats the lead. RHP Hansel Robles gave up a solo homer to 2B Howie Kendrick in the top of the ninth inning.
3B Todd Frazier continued his hot start going 2-4 with 2 RBI's. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera went 4-5 with a HR, two runs scored and two RBI's. CF Juan Lagares scored in the bottom of the fifth inning on a safety squeeze with deGrom at the plate. SS Amed Rosario added a RBI ground-out.
