Mets Hire Buck Showalter As Next Manager

Mets manager Buck Showalter (Photo Credits to Getty Images) New York Mets owner Steve Cohen announced today on Twitter that they have hired mananger Buck Showalter to a three-year contract. Showalter has been a Major League manager since 1992 and previosuly managaed the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. He helped lead the Yankees to the playoffs in 1995 as well as the Dimaondbacks in 1999 and the Orioles in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Showalter was also named Manager of the Year three times in 1994, 2004 and 2014. He brings a lot of experience and credibility to a win now team that has already has made several key moves this offseason including signing RHP Max Scherzer, OF Starling Marte, 3B Eduardo Escobar and OF Mark Canha. This hire shows the Mets are going for it this season and are ready to compete for a World Series championship.

Mets Sign Max Scherzer

Mets RHP Max Scherzer (Photo Credits to Richard Mackson-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets signed RHP Max Scherzer to a three-year $130 million contract. Scherzer has a opt-out after his second year as well as a no-trade clause. He has won three Cy Young Awards, five-more top 10 Cy Young finishes as well as eight All-Star game appearances. He also has thrown two no-hiters and had a 20 stirkeout game. Scherzer started his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was then traded to the Detriot Tigers. He pitched for the Tigers from 2010-2014 where he won his first Cy Young Award in 2014. He signed with Washington Nationals in 2015 and won two more Cy Young awards and helped led them to their first World Series title in 2019. Scherizer was traded by the Washington Nationals at the 2021 trading deadline to the Los Angeles Dodgers and was named Sporting News NL Starting Pitching of the Year and came in third in the NL Cy Young Award voting. This is the biggest signing for the Mets in the Steve Cohen ownership era and after they signed OF Starting Marte, OF/1B Mark Canha and 3B Eduardo Escobar last week they are finally starting to make moves like he promised when he took over as owner last offseason.

Mets Sign Outfielder Starling Marte To a Four-Year Deal

Mets outfielder Starling Marte (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets signed outfielder Startling Marte tonight to a four-year, $78 million deal pending a physical. Marte is the third player that the Mets have signed today after they signed Eduardo Escobar and Mark Canha earlier in the day. He has won two Gold Glove Awards in his career and was named to the National League All-Star team in 2016. Marte led the Majors with 47 steals last year. He will most likely be the everyday centerfielder which would allow Brandon Nimmo to move to one of the corner outfield spots in left or right field.

Mets outfielder Mark Canha (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets signed outfielder Mark Canha tonight to a two-year $26.5 million deal with a third-year deal. Canha hit .231 with 17 homers and 61 runs batted in for the Oakland Athletics. He had his best season in 2019 hitting .273 with 26 homers and 58 runs batted in with a career-high on base percentage of .396. Canha is primarily an outfielder and has played 488 games there in his career, but can also play first base as well. With the signing of Eduardo Escobar and Canda, the Mets are rebuilding their roster and emphasizing on players that are versatile who can play multiple positions.

Mets infielder Eduardo Escobar (Photo Credits to Micheal McLoone-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets signed infielder Eduardo Escobar tonight to a two-year, $20 million deal with a third-year option. Last year, Escobar hit .254 with 28 homers and 90 runs batted in with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers and was named to the 2021 National League All-Star team. Escobar will play third base primarily, but is known for his versatility, and can play second baseman, shortstop as well the outfield. This is a solid move and Esbobar will provide power and defense as well as the ability to play multiple positions.

Mets Hire Billy Eppler As General Manager

Mets General Manager Billy Eppler (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets announced tonight that that officially hired Billy Eppler as their next general manager and gave him a four-year contract. Eppler was previously the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels from 2015-2020. Some of his most prominent moves with the Angels include signing pitcher/outfielder Shohei Ohtani and giving star outfielder Mike Trout a contract extension. While with the Angels, he also pulled over several trades bringing back players such as Andrelton Simmons, Max Stassi and Tommy La Stella. Prior to the Angels, Eppler worked for the New York Yankees where he began career there as a scout and was later promoted to director of professional scouting department. Eppler then worked his way to Assistant General Manager during the 2011-2012 offseason and worked with general manager Brian Cashman. He has a lot of work to imporve the franchise's major and minor league roster but he has the experience of running the front office and understands the pressure of working in New York.

Mets Decline Option On Luis Rojas

Rojas managed the team from 2020-2021 with a two-year contract and had two club options for the 2022-2023 seasons. He has been offered a different position in the organization in a capacity that has yet to be determined.

Mets Lose To Braves 5-0 In Final Game Of Season After Offense Has Three Hits

Mets manager Luis Rojas (Photo Credits to Chris Simon) The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-0 in Atlanta at Truist Park this afternoon in their last game of the season and finished up with a record of 77-85. RHP Noah Syndergaard got the start and got into trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to RF Jorge Soler and two batters a ground-rule double to 2B Ozzie Albies and a RBI single to the following hitter 3B Austin Riley and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 1 inning, 3 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 0 strikeouts. RHP Trevor Williams came in next and had a scoreless bottom of the second and retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the third, but then walked Soler and gave up a single to 1B Freddie Freeman. Williams then gave up a RBI ground-out to Albies and a RBI double to Riley. Williams then gave up a RBI single to CF Adam Duvall and then was finally able to get out of the innong. Williams settled dwon after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was taken out after the fifth. His final line was 5 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Heath Hembree followed with scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Robert Gsellman threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The offense had only three hits all game and a total of four baserunners. Now that this season has concluded and ended on a disappointing note, it will be interesting to see how this offseason plays out. There are a lot of question marks starting with the next President of Baseball Operations as well as manager and the players on the roster. Mets Lose To Braves 6-5 After Carlos Carrasco Continues To Struggle

Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco (Photo Credits to Todd Kirkland-Gety Images) The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-5 tonight at Truist Park in Atlanta and dropped their record to 77-84. RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up a solo homer to RF Joc Pederson and then a double to the following hitter 2B Orlando Arcia and then a RBI single to the next hitter 1B Freddie Freeman. Carrasco's struggles continued in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off hitter to LF Eddie Rosario and three batters later a two-run homer to catcher Wilson Contreras. Carrasco had more trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up two walks and a two-out RBI single to Rosario and Carrasco was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman followed in the bottom of the sixth and hit CF Guillermo Heredia and then gave up a single to Pederson and then a RBI single to SS Orlando Arcia. LHP Brad Hand then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh RHP Migeul Castro threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against LHP Drew Smily, but in the top of the sixth RF Michael Confortp singled with one out and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double. The bats had a scoreless top of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth SS Francisco Lindor tripled with one out and then Conforto followed with a two-run homer. 3B Jonathan Villar then reached on an error, but pinch-hitter Jose Peraza struck out to end the inning. In the top of the ninth, catcher James McCann led off with a double and after 2B Luis Guillorme lined out, LF Kevin Pillar hit a RBI triple. CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI single and after Lindor flew out, Conforto walked and Alonso was walked intentionally with first base open which loaded the bases and with two outs. 3B Jonathan Villar came up with the chance to deliver the game-winning hit, but grounded out to second to end the game. The Mets final game of the season is tomorrow afternoon at the Braves at 3:00 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 4-3 In Final Series Opener After Brandon Nimmo Homers Twice

Mets CF Brandon Nimmo (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 tonight at Truist Park for their second consecutive win in their final series opener of the season and improved their record to 77-83. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI double. LF Dom Smith grounded out, but then catcher James McCann followed with a double. CF Brandon Nimmo led off the top of the fifth with a homer. After the offense had a scoreless top of the sixth, Nimmo capped out a stellar night at the plate with another solo homer. RHP Tylor Megill closed out a sold rookie season with five scoreless innings allowing only one hit and one run with six strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 4.52. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a one-out single to 2B Ehire Adrianza and then a RBI double to the next hitter 2B Ozzie Albies. Familia was able to finish out the inning without allowing any more runs. RHP Heath Hembree came in next and gave up a solo homer to LF Eddie Rosario, but settled down after that and kept the score 4-2. RHP Trevor May came in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Adrianza. RHP Edwin Diaz appeared in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his 32th save. The Mets next game is at the Braves tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Beat Marlins 12-3 In Final Home Game Behind Michael Conforto

Mets RF Michael Conforto (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 12-3 tonight at Citi Field in their final home game of the season to improve their record to 76-83. After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second. In the following inning, catcher James McCann led off with a walk and two batters later CF Brandon Nimmo walked. SS Francisco Lindor then struck out, but RF Michael Conforto came through with a RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth, 2B Javy Baez and LF Jeff McNeil were hit by pitches and then 3B Jonathan Villar delivered a RBI single. Catcher James McCann followed with a two-run double. Later in the inning, Lindor was walked intentionally and Conforto delivered once again with another RBI single. The bats went quiet for the nexr few innings until the bottom of the eighth after McNeil led off reaching on an infield single and then Villar walked. McCann and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme followed with fly outs, but then Nimmo walked and Lindor broke the game open with a grand slam. Conforto followed with a ground rule double for his third hit of the night capping off a great evening in what might be his final home game as a Met since is a free agent this offseason. Alonso followed with a two-run homer, his second homer of the game. LHP Rich Hill started out well with two scoreless innings, but gave up a two-run homer to LF Lewis Brinson in the top of the third. Hill gave up another run on a RBI single by CF Magnerius Sierra in the top of the fourth. Hill had a scoreless top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned runs), 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. He picked up his seventh win overall and first win as a Met. LHP Brad Hand followed with a scoreless top of the sixth. RHP Miguel Castro followed with a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Heath Hembree closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth. The Mets next game is at the Atlanta Braves tomorrow night October 1 at 7:20 p.m.

Mets Lose To Marlins 3-2 After Seth Lugo Blows Lead in Eighth

RHP Taijuan Walker cruised through the first seven innings allowing only one hit, but in the top of the eighth he ran into trouble after he gave up a lead-off double to 1B Lewin Diaz and then two batters later walked 3B Eddy Alvarez and was then taken out. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and gave up a two-run double to catcher Alex Jackson. Lugo's struggled continued later in the inning after he gave up a RBI single to SS Miguel Rojas, but was able to finish out the inning. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless top of the ninth and continued his dominant season lowering his ERA to 0.95. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after RF Michael Conforto hit a solo homer. In the following inning, pinch-hitter Dom Smith hit a ground rule double with one out and two batters later Walker reached on an infield single. CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double. The bats didn't do much after that and had scoring opportunities in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, but 2B Javier Baez and catcher James McCann grounded into double plays to end the threat. They went 2-6 with runners in scoring positon and left four runners on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Marlins 2-1 To Sweep Doubleheader In Noah Syndergaard's Return

Mets RHP Noah Syndergarrd (Photo Credits to Andy Marlin-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 2-1 tonight in an extra-inning game that went nine innings at Citi Field to sweep their doubleheader and improved their record to 75-82. RHP Noah Syndergarrd made his first start since September 29, 2019 after missing the last two seasons from Tommy John Surgery 18 months ago. Syndergarrd had a 1-2-3 top of the first striking out the first two hitters he faced topping out at 96 mph and retiring CF Bryan De La Cruz on a ground-out to end the inning and was then taken out. RHP Trevor Williams followed and gave up a solo homer to RF Jesus Sanchez in the top of the second. Williams settled in after that and allowed one run on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts in four innings. RHP Miguel Castro followed with a scorless top of the sixth. RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Jeurys Familia then threw a scoreless top of the eighth. LHP Brad Hand threw a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his sixth win. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth after 3B Jonathan Villar doubled with one out and then RF Kevin Pillar followed with a RBI single. The bats didn't do much for the next few innings until the bottom of the ninth after 1B Pete Alonso grounded out which moved 2B Javy Baez to third base who was the automatic runner to start the inning. Catcher James McCann then grounded into a fielder's choice to RHP Anthony Bass who couldn't make a clean throw which allowed Baez to score winning run. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Marlins 5-2 Behind Francisco Lindor in Game 1 of Doubleheader

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a triple and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single. After a scoreless bottom of the second, RF Michael Conforto walked with one out in the bottom of the third and two batters later 2B Javy Baez singled. 3B Jonathan Villar followed with a RBI single and later in the inning Baez scored on a fielding error by 3B Eddy Alvarez. The bats didn't do much for the next two innings, but in the bottom of the sixth pinch-hitter Jose Peraza led off with a walk and two batters later Lindor hit a two-run homer. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off walk to RF Jesus Sanchez and then a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Lewin Diaz. Stroman settled down after the inning and had a 1-2-3 top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 2 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He picked up his tenth win. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless top of the sixth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the seventh and picked up his 31th save.

Mets Lose To Brewers 8-4 After Carlos Carrasco Has Another Rough Outing

Mets SS Francisco Lindor (Photo Credits to John Fisher-Getty Images) The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 this afternoon in Milwaukee to get swept in the three-game series and dropped their record to 73-82. RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he walked leadoff hitter 2B Kolten Wong and then gave up a two-run homer to SS Willy Adames. Carrasco's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he loaded the bases and then gave up a RBI ground-out to LF Christian Yelcih and then a two-run single to 1B Eduardo Escobar. Carrasco had scoreless bottom of the third and fourth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. RHP Migeul Castro followed with a scoreless bottom of the fifth. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and gave up a walk and double and was hurt by his defense later in the inning after 3B Jonathan Villar made a throwing error by a grounder by Adames. LHP Aaron Loup had to come in and was also let down by his defense after SS Francisco Lindor made a throwing error which allowed two more runs to score. RHP Heath Hembree threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. LHP Brad Hand threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. Lindor got the offense on the board early in the top of the first with a solo homer. After a scoreless top of the second and third, RF Michael Conforto led off the top of the fourth with a double and then 1B Pete Alonso doubled and 2B Javier Baez hit a two-run double. In the top of the sixth, Alonso walked with one out and then Baez singled. Villar struck out but then pinch-hitter Kevin Pillar hit a RBI single. The bats went quiet after that and were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base. The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday, September 28th at home with a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins beginning at 4:10 p.m.

JD Davis Goes On on IL

Davis has been placed on the 10-Day IL with a sprained left hand. CF Albert Almora Jr was designinated for assignment as corresponding roster move. Davis had a difficult year staying healthy and went several times to the IL after he was hit on the left hand by Phillies starter RHP Chase Anderson on April 6th. He made five starts in September. Almora struggled offensively all year and hit only .115.

Mets Lose To Brewers 2-1 After Offense Struggles And Are Eliminated From Postseason

The Mets are now officially eliminated from the postseason for the fifth consecutive year. LHP Rich Hill started out well with two scoreless innings including working out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the second. Hill gave up a two-run single to 1B Eduardo Escobar in the bottom of the third, but then settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth and lowered his ERA to 0.98. RHP Trevor May then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The bats didn't do much after that until the top of the ninth after Villar walked with two out against closer LHP Josh Hader, but pinch-hitter Jose Peraza struck out to end the game. Mets Lose To Brewers 5-1 Due To Tylor Megill Giving Up Several Homers

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (Photo Credits to AP) The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee 5-1 in Milwaukee tonight for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 73-80. RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to 2B Kolten Wong. Megill didn't give up any more runs in the inning and worked out of a jam in the bottom of the second helped out by a double play by Lorenzo Cain. Megill's struggles continued in the bottom of the third after he gave up a lead-off walk to Wong and then a two-run homer to SS Willy Adames. Megill gave up another homer this time a solo shot to the following hitter LF Christian Yelich. Megill had a scoreless bottom of the fourth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. LHP Brad Hand came in next and got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off hitter to Yelich and then a sacrfice fly to the following hitter RF Avisail Garcia. Hand didn't allow any more runs in the inning. RHP Heath Hembree followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Miguel Castro then threw a scoreless bottom of the sevenvth. RHP Edwin Diaz then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a triple and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI ground-out. 2B Javy Baez then struck out, but 1B Pete Alonso reached on an error by Adames, RF Michael Conforto walked and 3B Jonathan Villar singled to load the bases. Catcher James McCann came up and struck out to end the threat. The bats didn't do much after that and had only two hits the rest of the game. Mets Get Blown Out By Red Sox 12-5 After Taijuan Walker's Struggles Continues

RHP Taijuan Walker got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Kyle Schwarber and then walked SS Xander Bogaerts and then gave up a single to 3B Rafael Devers and a RBI single to the following hitter J.D. Martinez. Walker had more trouble in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off double to RF Hunter Renfroe and then two batters later walked SS Jose Iglesias. Walker then gave up a RBI double to CF Enrique Hernandez and a three-run homer to Schwarber and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 2 inning, 6 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. RHP Trevor Williams followed in the bottom of the third and gave up back-to-back doubles to Martinez and LF Alex Verdugo and then a two-run triple to Iglesias. Williams gave up another run in the bottom of the fourth after Devers grounded into a double play which brought home a run. He gave up a RBI ground-out to Iglesias in the bottom of the fifth and another RBI ground-out to Verdugo in the bottom of the sixth ans was taken out after the inning. Mets Lost To Red Sox 6-3 After Marcus Stroman Struggles In Fifth

Mets 1B Pete Alonso (Photo Credits to Bob DeChiara-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 6-3 tonight at Fenway Park and dropped their record to 73-78. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with three scoreless innings including working out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the third, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth. Stroman gave up back-to-back doubles to 1B Bobby Dalbec and catcher Christian Vazquez to bring in a run. In the following inning, Stroman gave up a lead-off homer to CF Kike Hernandez and then later a RBI to DH Kyle Schwarber and a two-run homer to SS Xander Bogaerts and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. RHP Miguel Castro followed in the bottom of the sixth and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then hit 2B Jose Islesias and then walked Hernandez and was taken out. LHP Brad Hand came in next and gave up a two-run single to Boegarts before getting out of the inning. RHP Heath Hembree followed and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings, but in the top of the fourth SS Francisco Lindor walked and then 2B Javy Baez followed with a single and then 1B Pete Alonso walked to loade the bases. 3B J.D. Davis followed with a walk to bring in a run and then RF Michael Conforto singled to bring in another run, but Alonso was thrown out at home on a controversial send by third base coach Gary DiSarcina to prevent another run and prevented a potential inning of several more runs. In the top of the fifth, CF Brandon Nimmo singled with one out and then Lindor followed with a double, but Baez struck out and Alonso grounded out to end the inning. The bats didn't do much after that outside of Alonso added a solo homer in the top of the eighth, his 34th homer of the year. Mets Beat Phillies 3-2 After Jeff McNeil Delivers A Solo Homers In Seventh

Mets LF Jeff McNeil (Photo Credits to Vincent Carchietta-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 tonight at Citi Field to snap their five game losing streak and improved their record to 73-77. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings agaianst RHP Kyle Gibson, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth after LF Jeff McNeil led off with a double and then catcher Tomas Nido followed with a double. Pinch-hitter Dom Smith then hit a two-run double to tie the game scoring Nido and McNeil. It was Smith's first multi-RBI game since August 3rd. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, McNeil led off the bottom of the inning with a game-winning homer. RHP Rich Hill got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he walked RF Bryce Harper with two outs and then gave up a RBI double to catcher J.T. Realmuto. Hill settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth innings, but ran into trouble again in the top of the fifth after he gave up a one-out single to SS Freddie Galvis and then a ground-rule double to the following hitter 2B Jean Segura. Hill then gave up a sacrifice fly to Harper and was then taken out. His fina line was 4.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia followed and got the last out in the top of the fifth. RHP Trevor May came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth. RHP Seth Lugo came on in the top of the seventh and had a difficult outing allowing a hit and walk and only got the first two outs in the inning. LHP Aaron Loup appeared next and walked Harper to load the bases, but came back to retire Realmuto on a ground-out to end the inning. Loup stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 1.00. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and worked around a hit-by pitch to Galvis to close it out with a scoreless inning and picked up his 30th save. The Mets are off tomorrrow and return to action on Tuesday September 21 at the Boston Red Sox at 7:10 p.m.

RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a solo homer to 2B Jean Segura. After a scoreless top of of the second, Carrasco gave up another solo homer to Segura in the top of the third. Carrasco settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. LHP Brad Hand followed in the top of the seventh and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off double to 1B Brad Miller and then a double to the following hitter 3B Freddy Galvis. Hand was able to get only one out and was then taken out for RHP Trevor May. May got Segura to fly out, but then gave up a two-run double to RF Bryce Harper and then finally got out of the inning. RHP Migeul Castro then threw a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the ninth. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against RHP Aaron Nola, but in the bottom of the sixth CF Brandon Nimmo tripled with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI ground-out. In the following inning, 2B Javy Baez led off with a single and after LF Jeff McNeil lined out and catcher James McCann grounded out to move Baez to second, pinch-hitter Dom Smith reached on an infield hit which brought home a run. RHP Taijuan Walker had a scoreless top of the first, but in the top of the second he gave up a lead-off single to catcher J.T. Realmuto, who then stole second and advanced to third on a fly out by 3B Freddy Galvis. Walker settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth innings, but gave up a solo homer to Brad Miller in the top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 3 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless top of the sixth. RHP Seth Lugo came on in the top of the seventh and gave up walks to SS Didi Gregarious and Galvis and then a single to Miller which loaded the bases. RHP Tylor Megill got off to a rough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Tommy Edman and then back-to-back doubles to 1B Paul Goldschmidt and then a two-run double to LF Tyler O'Neill. Megill then walked 3B Nolan Arenado and two batters later gave up a RBI single to LF Dylan Carlson and then later in the inning a two-run single to CF Harrison Bader. Megill was able to get out of the inning and then had a scoreless inning in the top of the second. He gave up a solo homer to Bader in the top of the third and was taken out after the inning. Stroman later gave up a sacrifice fly to RF Dylan Carlson to tie the game. Stroman settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth and was taken out after the inning. In the following inning, CF Kevin Pillar led off and reached on an error by SS Gleyber Torres and then catcher James McCann followed with a walk. RHP Carlos Carrasco sacrificed the runners over and Villar struck out, but SS Francisco Lindor came through with a three-run homer. After a scoreless bottom of the third and fourth innings, 2B Javier Baez singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth and LF Jeff McNeil followed with a double. Pillar was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and McCann then hit a sacrifice fly. In the botttom of the sixth, Lindor hit a solo homer for his second homer of the game. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the top of the sixth and gave up a two-run homer to SS Gleyber Torres. Familia was then taken out and RHP Miguel Castro came in and got the three outs in the inning. LHP Brad Hand followed in the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to 2B D.J. LeMahieu and then three batters later a two-ryn homer to Stanton. RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless top of the eighth. Lugo picked up his fourth win. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and struck out pinch-hitter Roughned Odor to lead off the inning, but then gave up a single to LeMahieu and walked 1B Anthony Rizzo. Diaz came back to strike out CF Brett Gardner and got Stanton to pop out to Lindor for the final out for his 29th save. Mets Lose To Yankees 8-7 On An Emotional Night To Remember 9/11

Prior to the game there was an emotional ceremony to all those who lose their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks including firefighers, police officers and first reponders. RHP Taijuan Walker got off to a tough start in the second inning after he gave up a two-run homer to catcher Kyle Higashioka, another two-run homer to CF Brett Gardner and a solo homer to RF Aaron Judge. Walker settled down after that and retird the last 13 hitters he faced. His final line was 6 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Trevor May came in the top of the eighth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off single to Gardner and then a two-run homer to Judge. May then gave up a single to LF Giancarlo Stanton and was then taken out. LHP Aaron Loup came on and after retiring 1B Anthony Rizzo on a fly-out, gave up an infield hit to SS Gleyber Torres, and then pinch-hiiter Luke Volt hit a ground-ball that 2B Javier Baez threw away which allowed the go-ahead run to score. Mets Beat Yankees 10-3 And Take Advantage Of Defensive Miscues

In the bottom of the first, 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a single and two batters later RF Michael Conforto singled. 1B Pete Alonso then struck out, but 2B Javier Baez singled to bring in Villar who was nearly thrown out after LF Joey Gallo made a strong throw home, but catcher Gary Sanchez was not able to apply the tag and missed tagging Villar and he was safe at home. After a scoreless bottom of the second, Villar led off the bottom of the third and singled once again and then SS Francisco Lindor and Conforto followed with walks to load the bases. Alonso then walked to bring in a run and Baez grounded into a fielder's choice at 3B, but 3B Gio Urshela made a poor throw at home which allowed Lindor score and also Conforto advanced to third and Alonso to second with Baez on first. 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a bunt single to score Conforto. CF Kevin Pillar then hit a sacrifice fly. Catcher James McCann followed with a RBI double. In the following inning, Lindor hit a solo homer with one out and after Conforto reached on an infield single, Baez delivered a RBI double later in the inning. After a scoreless bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, Baez singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and then McNeil and Pillar were both hit by pitches to load the bases. McCann was then grounded into a fielder's choice to 2B Gleyber Torres, but then Torres made a wild throw which allowed McNeil and Baez to score. RHP Tylor Megill ran into some trouble in the top of the first after he gave up a triple to CF Brett Gardner and then RF Aaron Judge hit a BBI ground-out. Megill gave up a solo homer to LF Joey Gallo in the top of the second, but settled down after that. Megill allowed only two more hits and one walk the rest of the way. His final line was 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and a career-high 10 strikeouts. He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 4.06. RHP Heath Hembree followed with a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Yennsy Diaz gave up a solo homer to 1B Anthony Rizzo in the top of the ninth, but was able to get the last three outs to close it out. Mets Lose to Marlins 3-2 Due To Lack Of Offense

Mets 2B Javier Baez (Photo Credits to Jason Vinlove-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 3-2 tonight in Miami for their second consecutive loss and 12th in last 13 games and dropped their record to 70-71. RHP Marcus Stroman cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a lead-off hit-by pitch to pinch-hitter Eddy Alvarez and then a single to the following hitter SS Miguel Rojas. Stroman then got 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr to ground into a fielder's choice which brought in a run. Stroman was able to get out of the inning without allowing any more runs and came back out for the bottom of the seventh. He struck out 1B Lewin Diaz for the first out and then walked and then allowed catcher Sandy Leon to reach on an infield hit and was then taken out. His final line was 6.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. LHP Brad Hand came on and gave up a base hit to 3B Isan Diaz and two batters later gave up a slow dribbler to pinch-hitter Lewis Brinson that went back to the mound. Hand threw the ball wildly to first place which allowed the tying run to score, but then Brinson was tagged off second base after he came off the bag for the last out of the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia followd gave up a solo homer to 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the first, 2B Javier Baez doubled with two outs and then 3B J.D. Davis followed with a walk. Baez advanced to third on a passed ball and later scord on a wild pitch by LHP Jesus Luzardo. Baez came through again in the top of the third with a solo homer. Outside of Baez the rest of the offense did not do much and went 0-7 with runners in scoring postion and left seven runners on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night September 10th back home at Citi Field against the New York Yankees at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Marlins 2-1 After Edwin Diaz Blows Another Save

LHP Rich Hill had a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to catcher Alan Jackson in the bottom of the second. Hill settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. He had another strong start and his final line was 6 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 8 strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.82. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh and was able to get a double play to get out of the inning. LHP Aaron Loup then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth and was also to get a double play to escape a jam. RHP Seth Lugo worked out of a based loaded one out jam in the bottom of the ninth by striking out SS Miguel Rojas and got 2B Jazz Chsiholm Jr on a ground-out to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the tenth with Chisholm Jr as the automatic runner on second and after Chisholm Jr moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, Diaz came back to strike out RF Jesus Sanchez for the second out. Diaz then faced CF Bryan De La Cruz and could have walked him with first base open, but instead faced him and gave up a walk-off RBI single. The offense didn't do much against RHP Sandy Alcantara outside of a solo homer by RF Michael Conforto in the top of the seventh. Alcantara had 14 strikeouts with 1 walk and 4 hits in 9 innings. Mets Beat Marlins 9-4 Behind Two Homers By Pete Alonso

The offense got off to another fast start in the top of the first afte 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a walk and two batters later 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer for the 100th homer of his career. After a scoreless top of the second, Villar walked again with one out in the top of the third and then SS Francisco Lindor and Alonso followed with walks to load the bases. RF Michael Conforto and 2B Javier Baez were then hit by pitches which brought in two runs. The bats didn't do much in the next couple of innings, but in the top of the seventh LF Jeff McNeil led off with a single and then two baters later catcher Patrick Mazieka reahced on a throwing error. Pinch hitter Dom Smith walked to load the bases and then Villar grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in a run. Lindor then came up and delivered with a two-run single. In the top of the eighth CF Kevin Pillar lead off and reached on an error and then two batters later pinch-hitter J.D. Davis hit a RBI double. In the following inning, Alonso hit a solo homer, his second of the ninth and 101st homer of his career. RHP Carlos Carrasco had a difficult bottom of the first allowing three staight singles to bring in a run. Carraso was hurt by his defense in the bottom of the second after Lindor made an error which led to an unearned run. Carrasco was let down by his defense again in the bottom of the third after Villar made a throwing error which led to two more runs. He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was then taken out. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He picked up his first win. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. Mets Lose To Nationals 4-3 After Edwin Diaz Blows Save In Ninth

RHP Trevor Williams had a difficult outing allowing two runs on 10 hits in five innings. Williams gave two walks with three walks. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth. LHP Brad Hand then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off walk to SS Alcides Escobar and then two batters later walked 1B Josh Bell. Diaz then gave up a game-tying RBI single to pinch-hitter Andrew Steveson and then a RBI walk-off single to 3B Carter Kieboom. This was Diaz's fifth loss and sixth blown save. In the top of the first, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with one out and two batters later 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single. After a scoreless next two innings, 2B Javier Baez and CF Kevin Pillar singled to start off the top of the fourth inning and Baez advanced to third. Mets Offense Stays Hot With 18 Hits In 13-6 Win Over Nationals

The offesne got off to another fast start in the top of the first afte 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a double and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk. 1B Pete Alonso then singled to load the bases and RF Michael Conforto came through with a two-run single. 2B Javier Baez followed with a RBI single and LF Jeff McNeil then hit a sacrifice fly. Villar's torrid hitting continued after he hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the second. Baez hit a solo homer to lead off the top of the third. The bats didn't do much for the next feww innings until the top of the eighth after Baez led off with an infield hit and McNeil followed with a single. CF Kevin Pillar then singled to load the bases and catcher Parick Mazieka hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Baez. In the top of the ninth, Lindor led off with a solo homer and Alonso followed with a double. Conforto then hit a RBI single and then Baez followed with a single and McNeil walked to load the bases. Pillar then came up and broke the game open with a grand slam. RHP Taijuan Walker had a difficult bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to CF Lane Thomas and later in the inning a two-run homer to 1B Josh Bell. Walker settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. He gave up three straight singles to load the bases and then allowed a two-run single to RF Juan Soto. Walker then gave up a wild pitch which tied the game 6-6. He then walked Bell and was taken out. His final line was 4.1 innings, 6 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia came on and got out of a huge jam striking out 3B Carter Kieboom and after walking LF Andrew Stevenson to load the bases, Familia came back to strike out catcher Riley Adams to end the inning and keep the game tied. RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to CF Lane Thomas. Megill then gave up a single to the following hitter SS Alcides Escobar and later in the inning a single to 1B Josh Bell and a RBI single to 3B Carter Kieboom. Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. Megill gave up a lead-off double to 2B Luis Garcia and then three baters a two-run homer to Escobar. Brandon Nimmo Goes On Injured List With Right Hamstring Strain

Nimmo left the game early with hamstring tightness after he pulled up during a run going from second to third. The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 3B Jonathan Villar led off with an infield single and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single. SS Francisco Lindor then drove in a run with a RBI single and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly. 2B Javier Bavier led off the top of the second with a solo homer and LF Jeff McNeil reached first on an error by SS Alcides Escobar. Catcher Patrick Mazieka then grounded into a fiedler's choice and RHP Marcus Stroman hit a sacrifice bunt to move Mazieka to second. Villar then reached on an infield single which brought home a run. Mets Beat Nationals 6-2 With Four Runs In Tenth And Get Back to .500

Mets 1B Pete Alonso (Photo Credits to Greg Fiume-Getty Images) The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 6-2 tonight at Nationals Park for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record back to .500 at 67-67. After a scoreless top of the first, the offense got on the board in the top of the second after 2B Javier Baez doubled and then RF Michael Conforto followed with a RBI double. In the next inning, CF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out and then two batters later 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI triple. The bats didn't do much for the next several innings and several scoring opportunities, but finally came alive in the top of the tenth. 1B Pete Alonso led off the inning and came through once again with a RBI single to drive in SS Francisco Lindor from second as the automatic runner after Lindor made the last out in the top of the ninth. Baez then flew out but Alonso was able to tag up and advanced to second. RF Michael Conforto was intentionally walked, and then LF Kevin Pillar came up and delivered a two-run double and advanced to third on the throw. Catcher Patrick Mazieka struck out and then pinch-hitter J.D. Davis walked. 3B Jonathan Villar came up and hit a RBI single for his fourth hit of the night. LHP Rich Hill had a stellar outing with six scoreless innings. Hill gave up three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. LHP Aaron Loup then had a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off homer to RF Juan Soto and then two batters later walked 1B Ryan Zimmermann. Diaz then gave up a game-tying RBI double to catcher Riley Adams and Adams was advance to third after Baez made a throwing error and pinch-hitter Andrew Stephenson knocked down and collided with catcher Chance Sisco. Diaz was able to recover and strke out 3B Carter Kieboom and retired 2B Luis Garcia on a ground-out to end the inning and keep the gam tied. RHP Jeurys Familia was able to close it out with a scoreless bottom of the the tenth. The Mets next games are tomorrow afternoon with a day-night doubleheader at the Nationals beginning at 1:05 p.m.

Mets Beat Marlins 4-3 After Dom Smith Hits A RBI Single In Eighth

Mets 3B Jonathan Villar (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-3 tonight at Citi Field for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 66-67. The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning after 3B Jonthan Villar led off with a solo homer on the first pitch. The bats went quiet for the next couple of innings until the bottom of the fourth after CF Brandon Nimmo lead off after reached first on a dribbler and advanced to second on a throwing error. SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI double and then 1B Pete Alonso hit a ground-out which allowd Lindor to advance to third. Lindor was able to score after RHP Sandy Alcantara committed a balk while trying to do a pick-off. The offense didn't do much for the next couple of innings until LF Jeff McNeil led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and then catcher Patrick Mazieka followed with a single and McNeil was able to advance to third on a bobble by RF Jesus Sanchez. Pinch-hitter Dom Smith then came up and hit a single down the right field line which allowed McNeil to score. RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to SS Miguel Rojas and then a double to the following hitter 2B Jazz Chisholm who advanced to third after Nimmo made a bobble. Carrasco then gave up a RBI single to 1B Jesus Aguilar, but settled down after that. Carrasco retired the last three hitters he faced in the first and then got into a groove and at one point retired consecutive hitters. Carrasco's streak came to end in the top of the fifth after Villar made a throwing error on a grounder by catcher Jorge Alfaro.. Carrasco was helped out by his defense after RF Michael Conforto threw out Alfaro trying to get back to first on a fly-out to complete the double play. Carrasco was able to make it to the top of the sixth, but then tired out and left with runners on first and second with one out. His final line was 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup came in next and walked the first two hitters he faced which helped bring in a run, but was able to strike out pinch-hitter Sandy Leon and got Alfora to ground out to end the inning to keep the game tied. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless top of the seventh. Familia picked up his ninth win. RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth including two strikeouts to pick up his 28th save. The Mets next game is in Washington, D.C tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. to begin a five-game series.
