The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a triple and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single. After a scoreless bottom of the second, RF Michael Conforto walked with one out in the bottom of the third and two batters later 2B Javy Baez singled. 3B Jonathan Villar followed with a RBI single and later in the inning Baez scored on a fielding error by 3B Eddy Alvarez. The bats didn't do much for the next two innings, but in the bottom of the sixth pinch-hitter Jose Peraza led off with a walk and two batters later Lindor hit a two-run homer. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off walk to RF Jesus Sanchez and then a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Lewin Diaz. Stroman settled down after the inning and had a 1-2-3 top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 2 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He picked up his tenth win. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless top of the sixth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the seventh and picked up his 31th save.
