LHP Rich Hill had a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to catcher Alan Jackson in the bottom of the second. Hill settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. He had another strong start and his final line was 6 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 8 strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.82. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh and was able to get a double play to get out of the inning. LHP Aaron Loup then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth and was also to get a double play to escape a jam. RHP Seth Lugo worked out of a based loaded one out jam in the bottom of the ninth by striking out SS Miguel Rojas and got 2B Jazz Chsiholm Jr on a ground-out to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the tenth with Chisholm Jr as the automatic runner on second and after Chisholm Jr moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, Diaz came back to strike out RF Jesus Sanchez for the second out. Diaz then faced CF Bryan De La Cruz and could have walked him with first base open, but instead faced him and gave up a walk-off RBI single. The offense didn't do much against RHP Sandy Alcantara outside of a solo homer by RF Michael Conforto in the top of the seventh. Alcantara had 14 strikeouts with 1 walk and 4 hits in 9 innings. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Marlins at 6:40 p.m.
