The Mets are now officially eliminated from the postseason for the fifth consecutive year. LHP Rich Hill started out well with two scoreless innings including working out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the second. Hill gave up a two-run single to 1B Eduardo Escobar in the bottom of the third, but then settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth and lowered his ERA to 0.98. RHP Trevor May then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single, but SS Francisco Lindor struck out and Lindor was thrown out on a caught stealing. RF Michael Conforto then doubled and 1B Pete Alonso walked and Conforto advanced to third on a wild pitch. 2B Javy Baez followed with a RBI single, but 3B Jonathan Villar struck out to end the inning. The bats didn't do much after that until the top of the ninth after Villar walked with two out against closer LHP Josh Hader, but pinch-hitter Jose Peraza struck out to end the game. The offense was 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base.
