Mets Beat The Yankees 7-6 Behind Three Homers By Francisco Lindor

Mets SS Francisco Lindor (Photo Credits to Getty Images) The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 7-6 tonight at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record back to .500 at 72-72. The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Jonathan Villar led off with a walk and two batters later, RF Michael Conforto hit a RBI single. In the following inning, CF Kevin Pillar led off and reached on an error by SS Gleyber Torres and then catcher James McCann followed with a walk. RHP Carlos Carrasco sacrificed the runners over and Villar struck out, but SS Francisco Lindor came through with a three-run homer. After a scoreless bottom of the third and fourth innings, 2B Javier Baez singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth and LF Jeff McNeil followed with a double. Pillar was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and McCann then hit a sacrifice fly. In the botttom of the sixth, Lindor hit a solo homer for his second homer of the game. After a scorless bottom of the seventh, Lindor delivered once again with a game-winning solo homer in the bottom of the eighth off RHP Chad Green for his third homer of the night. RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a RBI double to LF Giancarlo Stanton and then a sacrifice fly to RF Joey Gallo. Carrasco settled down after with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the top of the sixth and gave up a two-run homer to SS Gleyber Torres. Familia was then taken out and RHP Miguel Castro came in and got the three outs in the inning. LHP Brad Hand followed in the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to 2B D.J. LeMahieu and then three batters later a two-ryn homer to Stanton. RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless top of the eighth. Lugo picked up his fourth win. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and struck out pinch-hitter Roughned Odor to lead off the inning, but then gave up a single to LeMahieu and walked 1B Anthony Rizzo. Diaz came back to strike out CF Brett Gardner and got Stanton to pop out to Lindor for the final out for his 29th save. The Mets next game is at home tomorrow night against the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.
