RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to CF Lane Thomas. Megill then gave up a single to the following hitter SS Alcides Escobar and later in the inning a single to 1B Josh Bell and a RBI single to 3B Carter Kieboom. Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. Megill gave up a lead-off double to 2B Luis Garcia and then three baters a two-run homer to Escobar. Megill was able to finish out the inning without allowing any more runs and then threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth. His final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. The bats got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Jonathan Villar, 1B Pete Alonso and RF Michael Conforto all delivered with hits and Conforto drove in Villar with a RBI double. 3B J.D. Davis and CF Kevin Pillar both struck out with the based loaded and LF Jeff McNeil flew out to end the threat and waste a prime scoring opportunity for more runs. The offense didn't do much for the next few innings until the top of the sixth when Conforto led off with a single and then two batters later, Pillar hit a two-run homer. In the top of the seventh, Villar walked with two outs but Alonso struck out to end the game. The bats went 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Nationals at 1:05 p.m.
