RHP Taijuan Walker cruised through the first seven innings allowing only one hit, but in the top of the eighth he ran into trouble after he gave up a lead-off double to 1B Lewin Diaz and then two batters later walked 3B Eddy Alvarez and was then taken out. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and gave up a two-run double to catcher Alex Jackson. Lugo's struggled continued later in the inning after he gave up a RBI single to SS Miguel Rojas, but was able to finish out the inning. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless top of the ninth and continued his dominant season lowering his ERA to 0.95. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after RF Michael Conforto hit a solo homer. In the following inning, pinch-hitter Dom Smith hit a ground rule double with one out and two batters later Walker reached on an infield single. CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double. The bats didn't do much after that and had scoring opportunities in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, but 2B Javier Baez and catcher James McCann grounded into double plays to end the threat. They went 2-6 with runners in scoring positon and left four runners on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
