Mets Beat Marlins 12-3 In Final Home Game Behind Michael Conforto

Mets RF Michael Conforto (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 12-3 tonight at Citi Field in their final home game of the season to improve their record to 76-83. After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second. In the following inning, catcher James McCann led off with a walk and two batters later CF Brandon Nimmo walked. SS Francisco Lindor then struck out, but RF Michael Conforto came through with a RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth, 2B Javy Baez and LF Jeff McNeil were hit by pitches and then 3B Jonathan Villar delivered a RBI single. Catcher James McCann followed with a two-run double. Later in the inning, Lindor was walked intentionally and Conforto delivered once again with another RBI single. The bats went quiet for the nexr few innings until the bottom of the eighth after McNeil led off reaching on an infield single and then Villar walked. McCann and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme followed with fly outs, but then Nimmo walked and Lindor broke the game open with a grand slam. Conforto followed with a ground rule double for his third hit of the night capping off a great evening in what might be his final home game as a Met since is a free agent this offseason. Alonso followed with a two-run homer, his second homer of the game. LHP Rich Hill started out well with two scoreless innings, but gave up a two-run homer to LF Lewis Brinson in the top of the third. Hill gave up another run on a RBI single by CF Magnerius Sierra in the top of the fourth. Hill had a scoreless top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned runs), 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. He picked up his seventh win overall and first win as a Met. LHP Brad Hand followed with a scoreless top of the sixth. RHP Miguel Castro followed with a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Heath Hembree closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth. The Mets next game is at the Atlanta Braves tomorrow night October 1 at 7:20 p.m.
