Mets Get Blown Out By Red Sox 12-5 After Taijuan Walker's Struggles Continues

Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (Photo Credits to Nypost.com) The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 12-5 tonight at Fenway Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 73-79. RHP Taijuan Walker got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Kyle Schwarber and then walked SS Xander Bogaerts and then gave up a single to 3B Rafael Devers and a RBI single to the following hitter J.D. Martinez. Walker had more trouble in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off double to RF Hunter Renfroe and then two batters later walked SS Jose Iglesias. Walker then gave up a RBI double to CF Enrique Hernandez and a three-run homer to Schwarber and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 2 inning, 6 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. RHP Trevor Williams followed in the bottom of the third and gave up back-to-back doubles to Martinez and LF Alex Verdugo and then a two-run triple to Iglesias. Williams gave up another run in the bottom of the fourth after Devers grounded into a double play which brought home a run. He gave up a RBI ground-out to Iglesias in the bottom of the fifth and another RBI ground-out to Verdugo in the bottom of the sixth ans was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 4 earned runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. LHP Brad Hand then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. In the top of the second, 2B Javier Baez led off with a walk and three batters later LF Jeff McNeil hit a RBI double. After a scoreless top of the third and fourth, catcher James McCann led off the top of the fifth with a walk and later in the inning SS Francisco Lindor reached on an infield hit which brought home a run. In the top of the sixth, DH J.D. Davis walked and 3B Jonthan Villar singled and two batters later RF Kevin Pillar walked to load the bases. McCann then hit a sacrifice fly which resulted in a run, but also a double play to end the inning. 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh. In the top of the ninth, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and two batters later Lindor singled to advance Nimmo to third. Pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme then grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run. The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, September 25th at the Milwaukee Brewers at 8:10 p.m.
