Mets Lose to Phillies 4-3 And Are Unable To Get Timely Hits

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 tonight at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 72-76.
RHP Taijuan Walker had a scoreless top of the first, but in the top of the second he gave up a lead-off single to catcher J.T. Realmuto, who then stole second and advanced to third on a fly out by 3B Freddy Galvis.
Walker settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth innings, but gave up a solo homer to Brad Miller in the top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 3 strikeouts.
LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.
RHP Seth Lugo came on in the top of the seventh and gave up walks to SS Didi Gregarious and Galvis and then a single to Miller which loaded the bases.
Lugo then gave up a sacrifice fly to RF Matt Vierling.
LHP Brad Hand followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a double to CF Odubel Herrera and then a single to 2B Jean Segura who was then taken out.
RHP Jeurys Familia came on and gave up a RBI double to Gregarious, but was able to finish out the inning.
RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
The offense was held scoreless by RHP Zack Wheeler for the first three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and then two batters later 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch and RF Michael Conforto walked to load the bases.
2B Javy Baez then came up and delivered a RBI single, but catcher James McCann and LF Jeff McNeil lined out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, SS Francisco Lindor and Alonso led off with singles, but then RF Michael Conforto grounded into a double play.
Baez walked to keep the inning alive, but pinch-hitter J.D. Davis struck out to end the inning.
Lindor led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and two batters later Conforto hit a RBI double.
Baez struck out, but then pinch-hitter Kevin Pillar came through with a RBI double.
McCann then struck out to end the threat in the inning.
The bats went quietly after that in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings.
They were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.
The Mets next game is at home tomorrow night September 18th against the Phillies at 7:15 p.m.
