Mets Lose To Braves 6-5 After Carlos Carrasco Continues To Struggle

Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco (Photo Credits to Todd Kirkland-Gety Images) The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-5 tonight at Truist Park in Atlanta and dropped their record to 77-84. RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up a solo homer to RF Joc Pederson and then a double to the following hitter 2B Orlando Arcia and then a RBI single to the next hitter 1B Freddie Freeman. Carrasco's struggles continued in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off hitter to LF Eddie Rosario and three batters later a two-run homer to catcher Wilson Contreras. Carrasco had more trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up two walks and a two-out RBI single to Rosario and Carrasco was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman followed in the bottom of the sixth and hit CF Guillermo Heredia and then gave up a single to Pederson and then a RBI single to SS Orlando Arcia. LHP Brad Hand then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh RHP Migeul Castro threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against LHP Drew Smily, but in the top of the sixth RF Michael Confortp singled with one out and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double. The bats had a scoreless top of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth SS Francisco Lindor tripled with one out and then Conforto followed with a two-run homer. 3B Jonathan Villar then reached on an error, but pinch-hitter Jose Peraza struck out to end the inning. In the top of the ninth, catcher James McCann led off with a double and after 2B Luis Guillorme lined out, LF Kevin Pillar hit a RBI triple. CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI single and after Lindor flew out, Conforto walked and Alonso was walked intentionally with first base open which loaded the bases and with two outs. 3B Jonathan Villar came up with the chance to deliver the game-winning hit, but grounded out to second to end the game. The Mets final game of the season is tomorrow afternoon at the Braves at 3:00 p.m.
