Mets Beat Braves 4-3 In Final Series Opener After Brandon Nimmo Homers Twice

Mets CF Brandon Nimmo (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 tonight at Truist Park for their second consecutive win in their final series opener of the season and improved their record to 77-83. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI double. LF Dom Smith grounded out, but then catcher James McCann followed with a double. CF Brandon Nimmo led off the top of the fifth with a homer. After the offense had a scoreless top of the sixth, Nimmo capped out a stellar night at the plate with another solo homer. RHP Tylor Megill closed out a sold rookie season with five scoreless innings allowing only one hit and one run with six strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 4.52. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a one-out single to 2B Ehire Adrianza and then a RBI double to the next hitter 2B Ozzie Albies. Familia was able to finish out the inning without allowing any more runs. RHP Heath Hembree came in next and gave up a solo homer to LF Eddie Rosario, but settled down after that and kept the score 4-2. RHP Trevor May came in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Adrianza. RHP Edwin Diaz appeared in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his 32th save. The Mets next game is at the Braves tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m.
