Scherzer has a opt-out after his second year as well as a no-trade clause. He has won three Cy Young Awards, five-more top 10 Cy Young finishes as well as eight All-Star game appearances. He also has thrown two no-hiters and had a 20 stirkeout game. Scherzer started his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was then traded to the Detriot Tigers. He pitched for the Tigers from 2010-2014 where he won his first Cy Young Award in 2014. He signed with Washington Nationals in 2015 and won two more Cy Young awards and helped led them to their first World Series title in 2019. Scherizer was traded by the Washington Nationals at the 2021 trading deadline to the Los Angeles Dodgers and was named Sporting News NL Starting Pitching of the Year and came in third in the NL Cy Young Award voting. This is the biggest signing for the Mets in the Steve Cohen ownership era and after they signed OF Starting Marte, OF/1B Mark Canha and 3B Eduardo Escobar last week they are finally starting to make moves like he promised when he took over as owner last offseason.
