Mets Swept By Rays 9-0 After Canning And Offense Unravel

The New York Mets lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 9-0 this afternoon at Citi Field and were swept for the first time this season to drop their record to 45-27.

RHP Griffin Canning had a scoreless top of the first, but then ran into trouble in the top of the second.

Canning gave up back-to-back walks to 1B Jonathan Aranda and LF Jake Mangum and then gave up a bunt single to 3B Jose Caballero to load the bases.

Canning then gave up a RBI ground-out to CF Kameron Misner and threw a wild pitch which allowed Mangum to score.

Canning gave up a RBI single to the following hitter catcher Danny Jansen.

Canning's struggles continued in the top of the third after he gave up a one-out walk to DH Junior Caminero and then gave up a single to Aranda and a RBI single to Mangum.

Canning had a scoreless top of the fourth and gave up two walks to start the top of the fifth and was then taken out.

RHP Max Kranick came in next and gave up a two-run double to Aranda.

Kranick stayed in for the top of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning and threw another scoreless inning in the top of the seventh.

RHP Ty Adcock had a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Ryne Stanek gave up three runs in the top of the ninth and picked up two outs.

LF Jared Young had to come in to get the last out in the inning.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, June 17 at the Atlanta Braves at 7:15 p.m.
