Mets Lose To Rays 9-4 After Tylor Megill's Struggles Continue

The New York Mets lost to the Tampa Bays 9-4 this afternoon at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 45-26.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with two scoreless innings and after one out in the top of the third, gave up a ground-rule double to SS Taylor Walls and a RBI single to the following hitter RF Josh Lowe.

It all unraveled for Megill in the top of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off homer to 3B Junior Caminero and then hit LF Jake Magnum and gave up a single to catcher Matt Thaiss.

Two batters later, Megill made a costly fielding error on a sacrifice bunt which allowed the tying run to score and two batters later, gave up a RBI single to 2B Brandon Lowe.

Megill gave up a RBI single to the following hitter 1B Yandy Diaz and walked DH Jonathan Aranda to load the bases.

Megill then gave up a wild pitch to allow another run to score and walked Caminero and was then taken out.

Megill's final line was 3.2 innings, seven hits, six runs, (three earned runs), two walks and five strikeouts.

LHP Jose Castillo came in next and got the last out in the top of the fourth.

Castillo stayed in for the top of the fifth and gave up a RBI double to SS Taylor Walls and gave up another run in the top of the sixth on a RBI triple by Diaz and was then taken out.

RHP Jose Butto followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Justin Garza threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the first and second, 2B Brett Baty drove in the first Met run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the third.

Three batters later, SS Francisco Lindor doubled and then LF Brandon Nimmo drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, 3B Ronny Mauricio hit a solo homer to snap his 0-12 streak and then Lindor walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed his second RBI single.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and went 2-4 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 15 at home against the Rays at 1:40 p.m.
