Mets Beat Dodgers 4-3 in 10 Innings In Series Opener

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 in 10 innings tonight at Dodger Stadium for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 38-22.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the fifth after 2B Jeff McNeil singled with one out and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a single.

Two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo drove in McNeil with a ground-rule double.

Later in the inning, 1B Pete Alonso had a chance to break the game open with the based loaded and two outs, but flew out to right field.

The offense did no do much after that for the next few innings until the top of the tenth after Alvarez led off with a game-winning RBI double to bring in pinch-runner Luisangel Acuna who started out on second as the ghost runner and then Lindor followed with a RBI single.

RHP Paul Blackburn had a stellar outing his season debut with five scoreless innings.

Blackburn gave up three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Max Kranick gave up a solo homer to DH Shohei Ohtani in the bottom of the seventh, but was able to keep the lead.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off single to 2B Tommy Edman who then stole second.

Diaz then struck out catcher Dalton Rushing, but then gave up an infield hit to SS Hyeseong Kim.

Diaz was able to recovery after he retired Ohtani on a deep sacrifice fly to left field and then struck out RF Tesoscar Hernandez to keep the game tied.

LHP Jose Castillo came on in the bottom of the tenth and got into a jam after he walked 1B Freddie Freeman and then gave up a RBI single to CF Andy Pages.

Castillo came back to strike out 3B Max Muncy and was then taken out.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and closed out the game after he retired catcher Will Smith on a fly-out to centerfield and then got 2B Tommy Edman to ground out to second for the last out to pick up his first save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 3 at the Dodgers at 10:10 p.m.
