The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against RHP Grant Holmes, but in the bottom of the fourth, RF Juan Soto led off with a walk, 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single and two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor drove in Soto with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor and DH Brandon Nimmo singled with one out and two batters later, Alonso drove in Lindor with a RBI single.
In the bottom of the seventh, Soto singled with two outs, Alonso followed with a double and then LF Jeff McNeil broke the game open with a two-run single.
RHP Griffin Canning cruised through the first two innings and after giving up a lead-off single in the top of the third, had to leave the game after he suffered a non-contact ankle injury. Canning was down for several minutes and had to be helped off the field and was unable to put any pressure on his leg.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said after the game that the team is waiting an MRI, but it is believed to be an Achilles injury.
RHP Austin Warren had to come in a emergency relief situation and did a fantastic job with 2.1 scoreless innings allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in his second appearance of the season.
Warren picked up his first win of the season.
RHP Dedniel Nunez and had a fine performance as well retiring all six hitters he faced including striking out the side in the top of the seventh.
RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, June 27 at the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:40 p.m.
